The Role of the Leaders
The leaders in each House of Congress play an important role of which bills get passed. They may try to get votes from other members in exchange for chairmanships or other leadership positions. Leaders also decide which committee a bill goes to; this power can give them the chance to have the bill killed by sending it to a committee who will not sign off on it.
